Pump up the volume
Cheerleaders, blood pumping music blasting over the stereo, well toned dragon boaters and a rock climbing wall, all these and more were present at the Marina Barrage as part of the Singapore International Water Festival jointly organized by Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and PUB. The main purpose of the event was to get youths to appreciate water and to start the habit of conserving this precious resource from a young age and by and large it seems to be a success.
There were many stands set up with information on water conservation and management. I learnt that Singapore is making the effort to conserve on our very limited resource by reducing and enhancing use of water and also by implementing new devices and technology together with behavioral change to overcome this problem. Also it was not difficult to get views from the people present at the event as they were all there because they cared about the environment and had the urge to make a change and to ensure sustainability of this precious resource for our future generations.
On top of that, Singapore is taking the initiative of educating the youth of the world by using the upcoming Youth Olympic Games(YOG). This way the athletes who are role models to many others would be able to spread the message of water conservation and caring for the environment to their other friends.
