SIWW and The World Cup. What to do?
Posted by Gerry O’Toole
The problem is this…SIWW arrives on our shores just at
the moment the football (not Soccer) World Cup enters the knock out stage. This presents a real dilemma! Even though my own team, Ireland did not make the finals, after having being knocked out by ‘le main de Dieu’ – or Thierry Henri’s left hand, my adopted team, Argentina are very much still in it. Intriguing things have happened so far. Italy and France are out (glorious retribution!) and even the USA are still in! What will happen next?
Is football that important? I hear you ask. Well in the words of the late, great Bill Shankly, highly successful manager of Liverpool FC – ” Football is not a matter of life and death, it is far more important than that!”.
My buddy Jim Howlett had the right idea and went to South Africa to catch a few matches.
But after a couple of very busy months, the chance to take part in SIWW will be welcome. We’ll just have to make sure there’s a TV around somewhere.
Come on Argentina!
