Personal Reflection on Water Conservation and Management
The Asia Pacific Youth Water Forum held on 26th June 2010 at Marina Barrage, by the PUB was truly an eye opener for me.
Most of the programmes were talks on water conservation by learned people and foreign delegates. One particular talk that I enjoyed was the one by Mr Liak Teng Lit, CEO of Alexandra Hospital and Chairman of the Water Network. He explained that “water is a cause” and that “by 2025, 60% of people will be living in water stressed countries”.
It made me ponder a lot and I started to worry about my generation. With such scarce water resources my generation would have to worry more about how to conserve water. We would be facing challenges like shortage of water, expensive energy and food. It is a scary thought. Singapore has to achieve self sufficiency when it comes to our natural resources because one day the countries we rely on might back out on us. Water is so important; it is our lifeline – our primary source of living.
