Don’t Forget Your Umbrella and Your Wellies!

Posted by Gerry O’Toole

The weather in Singapore over the past few months has been very hot and recently exceedingly wet. In fact a couple of weeks ago we had a full month of rainfall in about 2 hours. This resulted in unexpected flooding of the main shopping area, Orchard Road as this picture shows.  So to my overseas colleagues, don’t forget your umbrella and your wellies and expect to see some downpours. Ah well, at least it adds to the reservoir levels and keeps Singapore green!

I have only been in Singapore for four weeks, and on multiple occasions I have not been able to make it to work without being soaked from the waist down. I have fianlly learned the imporatance of carrying an extra pair of socks for when the water has soaked through my shoes.

One thing that amazed me was that I went to Orchard road about 6 hours after it flooded one day, and you could not see any of the damage. It looked like nothing happened.

Remembered my umbrella but forgot to bring my wellies. Could have used them early this morning. Do you have some extras?

Well it depends on your taste Les. They come in all sorts of design and colours. Google ‘wellies’. take your pick and let me know. I will do my best to meet your specification.
