I was watching Discovery Channel last night and this video about an experimental approach to desalinating sea water was on there. Its a great idea and I like it a lot.

Gerry, yes a cool idea. Essentially humidification/dehumidification process with a small twist. It is being looked at quite a bit. Currently, to reduce the footprint of such a process, they use hot air in the process (presumably using waste heat from industries). In this video, they took the opposite approach – essentially keeping the footprint large, but making use of it. Looks quite cool.
One caveat though- they show thermal desal when trying to give an idea of current desal technology. Should have used membranes, just to make a fair statement.
