The Merlion
A must see landmark is the Merlion. The fish body originates from Singapore’s ancient name back when it was a fishing village, Temasek, meaning “sea town” . The lion head represents Singapore’s original name, Singapura, meaning “lion city”. Located at One Fullerton, the 8.6 meter Merlion sprays water into the Singapore River by day or is beautifully illuminated at night. The riverfront walk provides a unique look at Singapore, reflecting the city lights.

Conveniently a short walk away from the Singapore Flyer, the Merlion is surrounded by shops, restaurants, and clubs. The Esplanade Theaters are nearby, offering fine dining and entertainment. The Merlion can also be seen by boat, as offered by the Hippo River Cruise.
