Sewers Wanted….
A few years ago on my first business trip to Manila I noticed every few hundred yards signs saying Sewers Wanted. Given that there were so many of these, the altruistic side of me was outraged that poor people were not connected to public sewer and I was equally impressed about the public outcry.
Imagine my embarrassment when I realised after three days that they were actually looking for women to sew garments!……
So I reckon this demonstrated my one track water engineer mind!

I had a similar experience. While grocery shopping at Fair Price here in Singapore, I saw products that claimed “Low Fat, High Cal!”, which made me avoid buying them. I kept wondering why one would want to cut down the fat content but keep all the calories. I finally asked someone in the office and they informed me that ‘cal’ is calcium, not calorie. I’m glad I asked because now my cupboard is better stocked (and I’m getting more calcium than my bones know what to do with).

So now you know that most of our clothes come from Sewers, or is that just me. I know how you feel – I felt like getting away from the world and applied for a job “lighthouse keeping” to discover that there was a space missing that it included ironing but not window washing.
