Along for the ride…
Grabbing a taxi after dinner last night, I found myself with what must have been the most informed cab driver on water issues. When I told him I worked at Black & Veatch, he asked what kind of projects the office works on. I mentioned the Changi NEWater plant, and he nodded, “Yes, yes, that’s new, isn’t it? That’s where they reuse wastewater as drinking water.” Surprised by his knowledge, I confirmed his statement and he proceeded to ask, “Can they really do that? Wastewater can be cleaned so I can drink it? With filters and things?” I told him it was safe and cleaned up to the highest standards. He paused in thought, and asked, “What about desalinization?” I told him it was a more complicated, expensive process. He nodded in agreement and mused, “It’s good to know we can have water when we need it.”
It goes to show that B&V along with PUB is doing a great job of keeping the public informed here in Singapore.
(I apologize in advance for the following.) One could even say it was a real “drive” for value moment.

ho ho – that’s a good one Jesica! Taxi divers are a good barometer of public feeling. In Queensland during the Bundamba project I had very similar , but generally more colorfull discussions with taxi drivers. Well at least we hav not come across anyone like the DeNiro character in Taxi Driver – probably before your time though!

You talkin’ to me?
Gerry, I may be young, but I still know good movies!
And yes, I’m very glad the taxi driver was a nice man questioning me about NEWater (sans mohawk).
