The rationale for rain gardens in MidWest US is sound. However, in Singapore, which is prone to flooding the concept would not work. the need is to get the torrential rain to the sea of reservoir as soon as possible.

Lay person’s question but wouldn’t it be better to have the water “purified” through a Rain Garden so that it comes to the reservoir/sea more slowly but cleaner when it comes? Thanks in advance for clarifying that point…

Good question. Well I see that there are a few rain gardens in Singapore, which are mainly at the Botanic Gardens etc. to show bio diversity that can be supported….and you are right that allowing storm run off to percolate through the soil will remove any debris the strom water is carrying. So that is good. But the rain here is so intense that you would not want to hinder the storm water from getting out to sea via the very large open storm drains across the island.
